Bangladesh Post’s journo EH Jasim gets DRU Literary Award

Ehsanul Haque Jasim, a writer and researcher who is also a senior reporter of the national English Daily Bangladesh Post, has received the ‘DRU Literary Award-2024’ in the essay category.

Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) arranged the award giving ceremony at its auditorium in the capital on Wednesday (November 27).

Mahbuba Chowdhury, Editor of Daily Manabzamin handed over the awards to the recipients. Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, president of Dhaka Reporters Unity, presided over the event.

Ehsanul Haque Jasim received the award for his book titled “Barak Parer Boyan”, a book written on the life-style of major riverine people and the community living on the banks of Surma River flowing over Kanaighat upazila and some other upazilas in Sylhet region.

Surma River is also known as Barak River because the Surma originates from northeast India and it starts when the Barak River divides at the Bangladesh border into the Surma and the Kushiyara rivers.

The book ‘Barak Parer Boyan’ published in 2024 is based on a number of write-ups that were published in newspapers and social media.

Ehsanul Haque Jasim expressed great joy upon receiving the ‘DRU Literary Award-2024’ from the leading national organisation of professional journalists in Bangladesh. “It is a recognition of my work and hard labour. The recognition inspires me,” he said in his reaction.

The writer further said, ‘Reading the book, a person will be able to get a glimpse of the people living in those areas of Sylhet.’
